"Data is the new oil" is a phrase that is often heard but, thinking about it, not quite correct. A barrel of oil can be stored, but can only be used once by the same owner. Data, on the other hand, ages quickly but is not consumed and can be shared and used multiple times by many. They are often stored in closed silos, waiting for them to find a purpose (over 80% of the data collected is not used) or worse, "held" by very few Big Tech. This prevents a more fruitful and systemic exploitation of data, that could be a driving force for innovation of all companies, large and small. 
How to make data more accessible? And how to make the most of those you already own? What role do institutions and companies play? 
In this meeting, in collaboration with Egea, participants will have the opportunity to discuss with Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, professor at the University of Oxford, former advisor to Angela Merkel and author of "Out of data!": ideas to boost competitiveness and economy" (Aegean, 2021). In his latest book, the author proposes a disruptive thesis: to relaunch progress it is necessary to break the information monopolies and put an end to data protection, overcoming the GDPR and building models based on a shared and more rational use of data.  
In particular, this webinar will focus on: 

• the sunset of the GDPR: from the data protection regulation, to the regulation on the use of data 
• issue of dimensions: to "open" the databases to the big tech and to create database shared between the smaller truths 
• Better use of data: collect only those you need, of higher quality and with a shared taxonomy.
