The conflict in Ukraine has brought into question not only the stability of the area but also the relations between the European and Atlantic partners. The risk of escalating the conflict requires rapid and cohesive decisions, but the Western allies are increasingly acting independently. The United States, leading the coalition, try to impose their choices on the allies but the answers are not unique. Italy, meanwhile, seems marginalized.
How do Italy’s relations with its traditional European partners change? How can Italy cope with these changes? And with what consequences?
In this first meeting of 2023, the comparison with Lucio Caracciolo will allow to analyze how the risk of an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict is leading France, Germany and the United States to take decisions independently, and how the United States is increasingly imposing its positions on the conflict in Europe. At the same time, we will look at the Italian situation, which seems to remain excluded from the decision-making table. In particular, we will take a look at:

• relations between France, Germany and the United States
• the loss of positions of Italy in Europe
• how geopolitics and the Italian economy change.
