Gas, technology, geopolitics: how the race for energy transition changes

Baker Hughes Florence Learning Center Via Perfetti Ricasoli, 78 - 50127 FIRENZE

The world seems to be heading towards a new energy future, which considers sustainability a top priority. Companies are trying to abandon fossil fuels to try to decarbonise, but at the same time, energy shocks, socio-economic and geopolitical crises seem to want to hinder this transition, making investments more risky and expensive.

How to continue (or accelerate) the change? How to overcome the obstacle of gas price increases? What role can research and governments play?

Understanding the prospects for the energy market and industry investment is a crucial juncture for a successful energy transition. To better understand them, participants will have the opportunity to discuss with James Henderson, Director of the Energy Transition Research Initiative and Chairman of the Gas Research Programme at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, who will try to analyze all the components: from the scarcity of raw materials to geopolitical crises, to governmental dynamics and technological research that, today and tomorrow, may influence the process of energy transition. In particular, he will analyze:

  • the outlook of the global gas market for 2023/24
  • the new opportunities offered by research
  • Northern hemisphere and Southern hemisphere in comparison: the challenges for Europe.
