The American elections and us. Scenarios for Europe

Grand Hotel Trento Piazza Dante, 20 - 38122 TRENTO

Should we be concerned about the American elections in November 2024? Most likely yes, as never before like this year it seems that what will happen across the ocean may have repercussions on the EU both politically and especially economically. Amidst isolationist impulses, threats to withdraw from NATO, and the introduction of increasingly protectionist tariffs, we could witness a radical shift in the relationship between the EU and its historic and natural American ally. All of this, amidst growing global tensions and the brutal conflict in Ukraine that is already putting European governments to the test.

What repercussions would there be for us Europeans in the event of a Trump victory in November? And what if Biden were to be re-elected? Is the EU adequately prepared for both possible scenarios?

To answer these and other questions, participants will have the opportunity to engage with Giovanna De Maio, an expert in the USA, Russia, and transatlantic relations. In particular, the following points will be addressed:

  • The isolationist tendencies of the USA
  • Different post-election scenarios
  • EU preparedness for the various scenarios
