Amidst the growing tensions between the Western world and the "Eastern" one, we are witnessing a new war for global hegemony. In the West, there is a resurgence of the State in the economic field but at the same time a deep crisis of the middle class, pushing it towards populism. Meanwhile, in the East, Russia and China have consolidated their autocratic models. The economic clash between East and West thus revolves around their peculiarities: with the West dominating in technology and financial markets, and the East possessing the raw materials. Politically, the idea that free trade would bring development and democracy has not yet materialized in the East.
How can we better understand the historical phase we are in? What threats loom over our economic system? What are the "rules" for facing the challenges of such a difficult time?
To answer these and other questions, the participants will have the opportunity to discuss with Giorgio Arfaras, economist from the Centro Einaudi and finance expert. In particular, the following points will be addressed:

• the clash between West and East: the post-globalization chessboard
• the West between progress and regress
• are the economies of European countries ready to face the new challenges?
