Main economic trends and the italian case: the challenges of growth in today’s international scenario

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore two major megatrends that are reshaping global economic and industrial balances, beyond the short-term geopolitical and trade tensions currently dominating public debate.

Marco Fortis, economist and Director and Vice President of Fondazione Edison, will provide an overview of the key dynamics shaping the global economy and explain how the Italian model represents a distinctive case in international trade, capable of delivering positive performance despite the structural constraints of the national economy.

In particular, the discussion will focus on the following two megatrends:

  • the evolution of growth rates in advanced economies: despite technological acceleration and the rise of artificial intelligence, GDP per capita is showing signs of slowing down due to demographic stagnation, with significant economic, social, and fiscal implications
  • the transformation of global trade: while Europe is losing ground in strategic sectors such as energy and automotive, Italy continues to stand out for its trade surplus and its ability to strengthen excellence across key Made in Italy industries.
