China’s Industrial Overtaking and the Future of European and Italian Manufacturing (with networking lunch)

Sede da definire TORINO

In recent years, China has accelerated a profound transformation of its economic and industrial model, evolving from the “factory of the world” into a global leader in high-tech industries. This shift is giving rise to a new “China Shock”, with significant implications for the competitiveness of European and Italian manufacturing.

During the session, participants will have the opportunity to explore, together with Tommaso Monacelli, Professor of Economics at Bocconi University in Milan, the key dynamics behind China’s industrial and technological rise and to discuss the possible responses available to Europe and Italy. In the second part of the session, an Executive from the industrial sector will complement the macroeconomic analysis with a business perspective, providing concrete insights into the challenges that growing Chinese competition poses for European and Italian companies.

In particular, the session will focus on:

  • China’s transition from the “factory of the world” to a leading player in the most advanced technology sectors, and the defining features of the new China Shock 2.0;
  • the impact of China’s growing productive and technological capabilities on Europe and Italy, and the possible responses in terms of industrial policy, protection of strategic sectors, investment and technology transfer;
  • how global competition may evolve and what opportunities Europe and Italy have to strengthen their industrial base by supporting innovation, productivity and competitiveness.
