Building resilient supply chains: responding to the Covid19 crisis

Long before the current Covid19 crisis many companies had recognised the vulnerability of their businesses to supply chain disruption.  Events such as the Fukushima earthquake, the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano and the floods in Thailand alerted organisations to the fragility of their extended supply chains.  Unfortunately, not all companies have been able to learn from these events and to re-engineer their supply chains to enhance resilience in the face of unexpected events.
In this webinar Professor Martin Christopher will argue that for too long the focus in many organisations has been on efficiency at the expense of resilience.  The adoption of “lean” manufacturing has in some cases left companies with little room for manoeuvre and flexibility to cope with unpredictable disruptions. However, emerging from this current crisis there is an opportunity to reflect on and learn from past experiences as well as to radically review future supply chain strategies.
In this webinar, the following key issues will be explored:

  • the roots of supply chain vulnerability
  • the foundations of resilience
  • creating multi-disciplinary teams to rapidly restore operations
  • engaging with key suppliers and customers
  • resetting the connection between procurement and supply chain management
  • actions for the short term and for the longer term.
