The space race: how the Space Economy will redesign global competition

The Space Economy has become one of the strategic engines of global growth. From the development of new satellite services to Earth observation, from defense technologies to applications for environmental sustainability, space is no longer merely a field of scientific exploration but a key infrastructure for the economy, security, and innovation.

In this rapidly evolving landscape, Italy also plays a prominent role within the international space supply chain, thanks to its industrial expertise and technological capabilities. However, maintaining and strengthening this position requires a strategic vision able to seize emerging opportunities, along with effective governance to expand such a highly promising sector.

The conversation with Marcello Spagnulo, former Senior Advisor at the Italian Space Agency (ASI), will provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the sector through three core perspectives:

  • the meaning of the Space Economy and its historical evolution;
  • the relationship between space activities, global economic dynamics, the environment, defense, and new technologies;
  • future outlooks and opportunities for a sector undergoing rapid transformation.
